What ever your dietary goals are, it doesn't have to be torture. Adopt these dietary habits. They are simple to integrate into your day-to-day routine, you will be healthier in days.

Does the word "diet" immediately make you think of an unpleasant weight-loss regimen? If it did, you are probably not alone. For example, consider the use of the term "diet" in marketing food products—it usually describes foods low in calories, such as diet soda.

But there is another meaning of this word. Diet can also refer to the food and drink a person consumes daily and the mental and physical circumstances connected to eating.

Set yourself on the road to maximum health

Most people have some “bad” eating habits that they find hard to break. Because of these, our bodies are permanently under assault from toxins and over time, this can damage cellular health and contribute to the ageing process and age related diseases. These five habits to make will also set you on the right road towards maximum overall health.

Five dietary habits you must make

Drink eight glasses of water a day

Exactly eight glasses? Are you sure?

This is a number that gets thrown around quite freely, of course some people are more active than others and may need more than that. This is a guideline, or a starting point if you know you don't drink enough water. The fact is dehydration is dangerous for your health.

Water helps to dilute toxins in the blood for elimination through the kidneys. Drinking enough water helps your kidneys to function better and makes an enormous difference to how you feel, for starters, you will feel more energized throughout the day.

It does help to keep a bottle on your desk, thirst and hunger are often confused, the next time you feel 'hungry' take a sip of your water, this is a great health habit to make.

Eat the right foods.

Be sure to eat the 'big five superfoods' each day. Superfoods are foods that hit all the right health buttons. They are packed with nutrients and antioxidants and are free from too much natural sugar. The five superfoods are; seeds such as pumpkin, sunflower, flax and sesame seeds; dark green vegetables such as spinach, watercress, basil, parsley and avocado; cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts and kale; sources of sulphur- containing amino acids such as onions, spring onions, garlic and shallots ; super fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, oranges, grapefruit, watermelon and grapes.

You already know not to smoke, skip your exercise routine, drink too much, or make poor dietary choices. It is interesting, though, how all of the major diseases are caused by the same things: smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise, excessive alcohol and stress. These are the new habits you need to form to be healthy.

Maximize your intake of anti-ageing antioxidants

Consider the many contaminants, such as car exhaust, sunlight, unhealthy foods, and air pollution, that you’re exposed to during a typical day. These types of exposures can cause free radicals to gain speed in your body, damaging everything in their path and leaving you at greater risk of chronic conditions like heart disease and cancer.

Think about slicing an apple. Before you know it, the exposed flesh turns from white to brown. This browning occurs because of oxidation. But adding orange juice or lemon juice to the apple right after you slice it keeps it whiter longer because the antioxidant vitamin C in the juice protects the flesh.

Eating a diet high in antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene means better protection for your body and overall health

Antioxidants help to neutralize the oxidants that can cause damage to your liver. Some great antioxidants are pomegrate, blueberries, blackberries, kale, strawberries, baby spinach, broccoli, plums, alfalfa sprouts, beetroot, avocado, red peppers, cherries, kiwi fruit, baked beans and grapefruit.

Find a partner

You can further improve and support your dietary goals by finding a suitable partner who has a similar lifestyle and shares common goals, sounds like a good friend doesn't it.

Finding a suitable partner will provide a powerful combination of support, accountability, motivation and, in some cases, healthy competition.

A buddy can motivate you continue when you feel like you have just had enough and want to give up, or when you are feeling hopeless.

We are social animals. We seek the company and positive reinforcement of others.

Exercise

Detoxification is about eliminating what is unnecessary. Exercise has a vital role to play in this, and that is the generation of vital energy. Any whole body exercises are good for you, including brisk walking, jogging, swimming, yoga etc

Keeping in mind that the definition of 'diet' is the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eat.
