Are you ready for a change in your career? Does the thought of Monday morning make you anxious? These could be the signs that you are burnt out at work. This is not always the time to quit, but it could well be negatively affecting your habits and your career.

Work can be challenging for everyone, and we all occasionally feel weary after a long day at the office. These are just a few of the common signs that you may have burnt out at work. By taking note of these common habits, you can take steps to avoid burnout and reignite your career.

Change your work habits and change your life

If your life is a chronic state of stress and exhaustion thanks to work, you’re probably suffering from job burnout. Sometimes it’s hard to notice when the physical, emotional or mental exhaustion is taking its toll, but it can help to identify some warning signs.

By taking note of these common habits, you can take steps to avoid burnout and reignite your career.

Feeling depleted after work

Consistently lacking the energy after work to do regular things like cooking, going to the gym or spending time with your family is not a good sign.

Keep a close eye on your eating habits, you could well have a sugar habit that is making you feel this way.

Disregarding how you treat coworkers or customers

If you’re planning to quit or you’re just sick of dealing with the same people every day, it may be reflected in how you treat your coworkers. Everyone is hardwired to crave close friendships, even more so in women, and these bonds can provide us with unique benefits. Making an effort with your coworkers, you will discover how having good friendships (and working on them) can benefit you. Your coworkers could eventually become, well, more than a shoulder to cry on.

Feeling liberated after a Friday at work

You know you’re really stressed when you feel like you’ve been freed when the weekend rolls around.

In saying that, it is important to make the most of your weekend! What do you have planned? Weekends can go to waste if you don't schedule something fun to do on them. Make time for family and friends, do some gardening or go away for the weekend. Have a look at these weekend habits of successful people. Try them, add them gradually to your life and you never know, you could actually be in the right career after all.

Explaining your job with “fine”

An obvious sign of burnout comes when family and friends ask you about your job, and whether it’s new or you’ve been there for a while, you respond with one-word responses like “fine”.

Inconsistent sleep patterns

People that are over-stressed at work will lose sleep over something that they did (or didn’t do) at work.

Insufficient sleep can lead to obesity, heart disease and diabetes. It can also impact your immune system, which of course means you’ll be more likely to get sick.

The bottom line is that if you want to be more productive, eat better and achieve your goals, then you need to focus on getting an adequate amount of sleep.

Setting your alarm too early to use the snooze button

The signs of job burnout can start first thing in the morning, when you feel so tired that you hit “snooze” over and over.

Dreading every Monday

Just like only looking forward to Friday night, absolutely dreading Mondays shows you’re feeling the pressure.

The truth is, if you want to really be fulfilled and achieve to your potential, you need to do the things that inspire, drive and energize you. Most of us know that.  The real challenge, is how do you achieve it?  How do you manage to find a career that ideally fits in with the things that are closest to your heart? Maximize your emotional time.
